Pakefield Tour 2009

Boldmere Falcons S&S Under 9's travelled to Pakefield, Lowestoft to take part in the Suffolk Championship for their annual end of season tour. The Boldmere U11's side also took part with two teams in their age group, resulting in plenty of support for all three teams in a fantastic festival of football. The pitches at the local sports field were in great condition and the glorious weather over the two day's added to a brilliant atmosphere that made the weekend a really enjoyable occasion for all supporters and players.

With 10 teams from various parts of the country taking part, it was always going to be a tough task for Boldmere's U9's, but they came away with their heads held high, finishing in fourth place after winning 4 games, drawing 3 and only losing to the 2 eventual finalists.

The first day got off to a great start for Boldmere, thanks to a 1-0 win over Hannakins Farm, with Declan Whiting scoring a superb volleyed goal. Next up was Barnet Azzuri from London and Boldmere were unlucky to lose a game, they dominated in the early period's, only to concede a late deflected goal for a 1-0 defeat. A 5-0 defeat to eventual winners, Woodford Youth from Essex, was sandwiched between 2 more wins as Boldmere finished the first day in joint 2nd place. Little Gaddesden Red were beaten 3-1, with goals from Frankie Barrett, Harry Simper and Niall Brennan and the final game was an exciting one as Boldmere came from behind against local team Waveney Youth 'B' to win 2-1 with Matthew Brown and Harry getting the goals.

With the morning football over the teams headed back to the Pontins site at Pakefield, to enjoy the facilities on offer. The players cooled off in the swimming pool, before heading down to the beach, where a game of cricket with the parents, added to the day's enjoyment. In the evening everyone relaxed in the showbar, enjoying the on site entertainment, with a few drinks discussing the day's events.

On the Sunday morning, a late equaliser from Little Gaddesden Black, denied Boldmere a win, after a Niall Brennan corner was deflected into the goal for a 1-1 draw in the first game of the day. Dereham Town Youth were the next opponents and with both team's looking for a win to maintain their push for a final place, a competitive match played in good spirits, resulted in a 0-0 draw. Declan Whiting scored his second of the weekend in a 1-0 win over Waveney Youth 'D', before Boldmere finished the day unbeaten as they totally dominated against Coventry side, Southam United, whose keeper was superb in shutting out the Boldmere attack for a 0-0 draw.

The trophy presentation in the showbar on the Sunday was a special occasion for the players as former Newcastle and England player Rob Lee presented each player with a silver trophy, before having their individual and team photos with Rob to round off a brilliant weekend.

The players and parents gathered for a post tournament chat in the bar at Pakefield and felt that it had been a fantastic trip, that brought everyone closer together and were eager to know where the team would be going next year. An amazing experience that get's better every year, bring on 2010!!
