Match Reports – 1st November 2009

Boldmere Falcons Colts U9’s : 1

Chasetown FC Scholars U9’s: 2

The Colts struggled to make possession count and paid the price at the end. This was a hard fought battle against a top league team with Max Brookes scoring early and some stout defending from Man of the Match Jack Wykes. The Colts deserving a draw at least if not a win.

Additional report:

This is the best performance the Colts have put in this season working well as a team passing, moving and defending from the front. Our first game of the season was against today’s opponents and we did not perform on that day going down 4-0. Today I think the visitors thought that it was going to be a stroll in the park but the boys in black and red attacked straight from the off. Max Brookes striking after 4 mins to give the Colts a deserved lead. Whist the defence consisting of man of the man Jack Wykes and Ryan Hipkins kept the visitors to minimal efforts and the ones that did get through were easily dealt with by Filip Koslowski in goal.

The Colts hit the bar from a corner and later on from another corner Daniel Shakespeare nearly converted a near post effort which the keeper cleared to Ryan only to see his shot go over the bar. Max and Oliver Nash linked well up front to create numerous chances which we would live to regret.

The second half was a little more evenly matched with the visitors having clearer efforts on goal but the turning point of the game was a corner to the visitors which was swung in and in the scramble the ball ricocheted up onto a Colts hand and the ref pointed to the spot (ball to hand not hand ball in my honest opinion). The spot kick was converted and the visitors we on the up. Sam Burnett and Matthew Bolger were brought on and got stuck in straight away. Sam battle well in the centre of the park and had a couple of strikes on goal. Unfortunately today was not our day and with 2 mins left a cross shot from the visitor left wing was save by Filip in goal only for the attempted clearance to fall straight to the feet of the striker to place it home. A bold effort from the boys with good team work well done.

This was a fantastic match where both sides gave their all and played some excellent football. Both sets of players need to be congratulated for putting on a match that you would happily have paid to watch. Boldmere took the game to Sutton United early on. The early exchanges were mainly in Sutton's half of the pitch and Boldmere looked comfortable. However Sutton found their stride and battled back into the game. Both sides created chances in the first half and a 1-1 score line was a fair result at the break.

Boldmere took the lead again early in the second half and looked like they would go on and secure this match. Once again though Sutton battled back and left Boldmere hanging on to their slender lead. With only five minutes left Sutton finally got the goal that they deserved and levelled the scores. In previous matches Boldmere's heads would have gone down however this time they raised themselves and their game. Pushing forward Boldmere created several good opportunities before Jack Sutherland finally won the game with seconds remaining on the clock.

Both teams deserve an enormous amount of respect for their performances in a hard fought but fair match.

Sutton Girls U12’s: 0

Boldmere kept up their great start to the season thanks to this victory but full credit must go to a depleted Sutton side who fought valiantly until the last kick.
