Boldmere played their first ever game in Division C of the Central Warwick's league after moving from the top tier of the Lichfield league and started their new campaign with a fully deserved win.
With the sun shining and the pitches looking great, it was ideal conditions for playing football and both teams didn't disappoint with some excellent build up play throughout the game.
Boldmere took an early lead as Castle Brom's keeper parried a shot from Declan Whiting into the path of Jamie Smith who coolly slotted home, after showing great vision in supporting Boldmeres attack. A throw in from Declan Whiting ended up in the back of the net, but with nobody seeming to get a touch of the ball , a goal kick was awarded. Declan was soon on the score sheet firing home a loose ball in the penalty area as the home side upped the pace of the game.
Thanks to some resilient defensive work from Jodie Mason, Rory Doherty, Lewis Barratt and debutant Kieron William's, the score at half time was 2-0, with newly installed keeper Frankie Barrett's safe hands giving Boldmere the confidence to increase the lead in the second period. The midfield of Harry Simper, Declan Whiting, Jamie Smith, Matthew Brown and Niall Brennan worked tirelessly all game to win the battle in the centre of the pitch.
As the second half progressed, Boldmere started to push further forward and allowed the Castle Brom attack to break away, and with no one closing down the attacker, he was given a free shot at goal, giving Frankie little chance to save. This gave the away team some confidence and they went looking for the equaliser as Boldmere tried to settle again and were only denied by Frankie Barrett stopping a shot from running over the line at the second attempt.
It wasn't long before Boldmere opened up the 2 goal lead again, as Jack Whitaker played a superb through ball behind the defence for Niall Brennan to beat the keeper at close range. Soon after, an excellent short corner between Jamie and Niall, which was only worked on at the previous training session, resulted in a superb knee high cross being fired in for Matthew Brown to execute an unstoppable volley into the back of the net. Boldmere then made it 5-1 when Niall picked up the ball in the penalty area and switched the ball from his left to his right foot to slot past the keeper for his second of the game. A consolation goal for Castle Brom was scored from the penalty soon after.
Special mention must go to Kieran Williams and Jamie Smith, both excellent on their debuts and for Frankie Barrett playing his first competitive game in his new role as goalkeeper.
Player of the Match was a close call with Declan Whiting, Matthew Brown and Lewis Barratt all with good shouts, but Lewis was awarded the honour for his strength, tackling and forward play in defence and midfield.
In all a good game played in good spirits
by both teams on a perfect day, when the Villa made it 5 in a row.

A fine sunny day heralded the start of The Colts second season.
Parkfield being a brand new team, turned out to be a physical team who were no pushovers.
During an even start, Parkfield put pressure on the boldmere defence, but didn't trouble George Smith in goal.
Frazer Austin was particularly solid
and kept finding his players with the ball. George Jenkins alongside
was winning a lot of tackles and breaking up Parkfields attacks.
The breakthrough came when centre forward
Will Jones blocked a clearance and ran onto it. His shot was parried
by the keeper but just crept over the line as Ethan Caballero was following
up to make sure. WILLS GOAL! But only just.
This knocked the wind out of Parkfields sails and Boldmere started to pass the ball really well. Jake Freeman was playing some good passes into areas that were hurting the Parkfield defence.
Will Jones produced a determined run
to put himself through on goal from the half way line, and ran on to
smash the ball past the Parkfield keeper. 2-0 and Boldmere were well
in control of the game.
Ethan Caballero missed a great chance to put his team further ahead when one on one from the halfway line, Parkfields keeper made a good save and pushed it out for a corner.
Late in the first half, Jack Whitehouse
had two great runs down the left hand side, beating several players
and putting in two great crosses which were scrambled clear.
At half time, the Boldmere management were keen not to let the boys get complacent after throwing away several 2-0 leads last season.
Early in the second half, Liam Nevin
and Ben Caughtry were linking up on the right and causing havoc in the
Parkfield defence. Ben Caughtry had a great chance to score and his
attempt to lob it over the onrushing keeper narrowly went wide.
The Parkfield keeper then produced the save of the match to push round a great Jack Whitehouse strike that was flying into the top corner.
Boldmere finally broke the Parkfield
resistance with Ethan Caballero racing through a square defence and
showed great desire to just toe poke the ball home.
The scoring was completed by a speculative lob by Jake Freeman that was meant as a through ball. The Parkfield keeper misjudged it and it bounced over him into the goal. Credit must go to Jake for playing the ball into the right area though.
The Man of the Match award went to George
Jenkins who was superb at stopping everything Parkfield threw at him.

Boldmere comfortably won their first
ever 11 a side game after raising their performance in the second half.
A strangely subdued first half by both sides saw the score 0 – 0 at
half time. However after the break the Falcons dominated play with three
superb goals scored by man of the match George Grigg, Andrew Perry &
Jack Lowe.

Coldlands Colts U11’s: 1
Both sides took some time to settle in what, for both teams, was their first ever 11 a side league encounter. The first half was all a bit panicky with all the players looking nervous & just gifting possession back to each side repeatedly. However after a gentle ‘chat’ by the manager at half time Boldmere immediately started playing the attractive passing football they have become known for. Using the full width of what is a narrow home pitch the Falcons began to create problems & it was no surprise when George Grigg finished well inside the box. Within minutes Andrew Perry scored a superb goal lifting the ball over the despairing Coldlands keeper from distance.
Joe Jobson was sending in crosses & corners like missiles but somehow the opposition managed to survive the bombardment and from a rare Coldlands corner our defence went to sleep as the opposing striker finished well from inside the 6 yard box. Coldlands now had a renewed belief that they could get something out of the game and although there were a couple panicky moments Boldmere showed their resilience helped out by some thunderous tackles from Jamie Lucas & Josh Gordon. The better approach play & all round game of the Falcons gained its just rewards however when Jack Lowe scored with a fabulous shot which left the keeper clutching at thin air. A mention must be made of Jacob in goal who made several good stops with one in particular that was out of this world as he clawed a goal bound effort over the bar. The Royal Mail Sports Foundation Man of the Match was awarded to George Grigg for an outstanding all round game.
All in all a solid start to our first
season at 11 a side. We have played a lot better but now the first game
is out of the way I am sure things will get better every week.
