A perfect day for football, and Boldmere
were really fast out of the blocks.
In the second minute, a great move down
the left hand side involving Alistair Wells, Jake Freeman and Ethan
Caballero almost resulted in a goal, but Ethans shot just flashed wide
of the far post. This set the tone for the rest of the game as Boldmere
passed the ball around their much larger opponents.
Cannock almost conceded again when Ethan
Caballero went past two players down the left hand side, and pulled
the ball back to the edge of the box to Jake Freeman. His goal bound
shot was blocked superbly by a Cannock defender and the ball just went
past the post.
Frazer Austin on the right hand side
was occupying two defenders at all times and creating space for his
team mates. The inevitable breakthrough came after 7 minutes, following
a scramble on the edge of the Cannock box, Jake Freeman passed the ball
back to Brad Priddey, his first touch was superb to get the ball out
of his feet, and he struck a great cross shot into the opposite corner
of the net.
Boldmere were in total control and from
a Cannock attack, Brad Priddey won the ball and passed it out to Will
Jones, his first time lay off for Ethan Caballero completely opened
up the Cannock defence, and Ethan ran through on goal to finish with
a low shot past the keeper.
Some of the football that Boldmere were playing was a joy to watch and their goalkeeper George Smith could only stand and watch. On the few occasions Cannock got into the Boldmere half, he commanded his penalty area superbly.
2-0 at half time and the score did not
really reflect the superiority of Boldmere's football.
In the second half, Jack Whitehouse on
the right of midfield was supplying a lot of passes to his team mates
and linking up with Liam Nevin in midfield. From a Liam Nevin pass out
to the left Ethan Caballero made it 3-0. He pushed the ball past the
defender on one side and ran around him the other side, he ran on another
20 yards and fired a superb shot into the far corner of the net.
The fourth goal arrived soon after, and
again Liam Nevin was involved. After collecting a pass from Jack Whitehouse,
he was through on goal and his shot was deflected to the far post where
Ben Caughtry was waiting to tap the ball home.
The icing on the cake and probably the
goal of the season so far was the fifth and final goal. Cannock town
were bearing down on goal in a two v one situation. Unfortunately for
Cannock, the one was the tenacious Alistair Wells. He won the ball superbly
by staying on his feet and waiting for the right moment to tackle. He
came away with the ball and waited until there was a player available.
He passed the ball down the left hand
side to Jake Freeman, who performed an outrageous dummy to enable the
ball to run onto Ben Caughtry. Jake then overtook Ben down the line
and Ben played a superb back heel into Jake's path. Jake played a low
hard left foot cross into the box where Frazer Austin was waiting unmarked
and he steered the ball home for a wonderful team goal.
Boldmere continued to open up the Cannock
defence but failed to add to their lead. George Jenkins was superb at
the back, he cancelled out a lot of Cannock attacks and showed a lot
of discipline to keep his position.
Man of the match was selected by one
of the teams sponsors. He chose Frazer Austin for his composure on the
ball and always looking to pass the ball.

Man of the Match: Josh Hetherington
Goal Scores: Platini Kamden (2); Alex Reely
Another great match where both team gave their all and the football flowed from end to end. Both teams were into the match from the outset, and chances were being created at both ends straight from the kick-off. This was not a cup-tie where teams were nervous of making mistakes, both teams attacked and defended with equal passion.
It was Aldridge that took an early lead in the 4th minute. As was typical of the match Boldmere applied pressure and following a succession of corners equalised through Alex Reely within two minutes. Boldmere then got caught playing about with the ball in their own penalty area instead of clearing the ball and Aldridge scored to lead 2-1 at half-time.
In the second half Boldmere started to
become dominate in the match. They managed to apply some sustained pressure
and equalised with a magnificent long range shot from Platini Kamdon.
At this point Boldmere looked as if they were going to push on and win
this match. Then in the 51st minute they switched off. Aldridge put
in cross from the left Boldmere waited for it to bounce and Aldridge
fumbled the ball in from close range. Less than a minute late with an
identical copy of the previous goal Aldridge gained a 4-2 lead. Boldmere
pushed three up front and a minute later Platini Kamdon scored his second
and gave Boldmere a chance. With Boldmere pushing forward Aldridge caught
them on the break but some heroic goalkeeping kept Aldridge out. Boldmere
created some good chances and so nearly got the equaliser in the dying
minutes.

High flying Boldmere went into this game with very little match practice due to the weather over the last few weeks and with a couple of players missing. The Falcons quickly asserted their superiority as they dominated midfield and created several chances which with a little more of a cool head would have seen them hit the net at least twice before the first goal came with a poachers finish from George Grigg. Boldmere conitinued to press & it was no suprise when Joe Webb scored to double the home side's advantage. A mixture of some lacklustre finishing, last ditch defending & some very strange offside decisions saw Holy Souls hold the Falcons to just the two goal lead at half time.
The second half began as the first with
Boldmere well on top having settled into their familiar pass & move
flowing football that the spectators have come to expect. It was no
surprise then when the best move of the match saw Andrew Perry beat
his man wide on the right, trick the defender on the touchline &
then pick out Nathan Quinlan wuith a superb ball who crashed a left
footed volley past the despairing away keeper. It looked like an avalanche
of goals would come as the Falcons trime & again created chances
which on another day would have found the back of the net however these
chances came & went until from a free kick fully 25 yards out Joe
Jobson floated a ball in that deceived everyone, including the Holy
Souls keeper, to find the bottom right hand corner of the net. It was
nice to get back to playing a competitive match & Boldmere will
play a lot worse than this and come away with a bigger scoreline in
their favour. The Roskell Davies Man Of The Match was awarded to Andrew
Perry for a fantastic all round performance.
