Boldmere battled really hard for the
three points in a physical game. Ben Caughtry was fouled and got up
to smash the winner in from the penalty spot.

Boldmere had to overcome an over physical
team to hang on to their unbeaten league record.
All of the 11 Boldmere players deserve
a medal for trying to play football under the toughest conditions.
The small pitch suited the home team
more, but all the football in the first half came from Boldmere.
A sign of things to come happened in
the fourth minute, when after clearing a ball George Jenkins was hit
by a Boley Park player well after the ball and he had to go off injured.
Will Jones had the thankless task of
playing up front and dealt with players tackling him from behind really
well, holding the ball up superbly. As the game wore on, Jack Whitehouse
and George Jenkins also played the role tremendously, with very few
chances to play football. All three showed great maturity in sticking
at their task.
Jake Freeman flashed three shots wide
of the post from distance, the best of the efforts followed the move
of the match involving Liam Nevin and Jack Whitehouse, who’s clever
pass set up Jake for a shot that missed the far post by inches.
On the left, Ethan Caballero was facing
some ferocious tackling and showed tremendous bravery in continuing
to play his game.
The decisive moment in the game came
when Jake Freeman released Ben Caughtry into the box, and as he was
about to shoot, he was brought down by another reckless challenge. Penalty!
Ben was injured from the tackle, but
after a short break to compose himself he got up and smashed the penalty
into the net. The Boley Park keeper was lucky not to get a hand to it
as a trip to the local A & E would have been required.
In the second half Boldmere’s defenders
came to the fore as Boley Park’s long ball game assisted by a strong
wind, penned Boldmere back in their own half.
Brad Priddey and Alistair Wells were
solid and when the ball got past them, George Smith in goal commanded
his area superbly.
In the final ten minutes, the defensive
performances of Alistair Wells and his new partner in defence Frazer
Austin were worthy of a special mention. When one went to tackle, the
other covered. Alan Hansen would have been impressed!
Nothing typified the spirit more than
with two minutes to go, from a Boley Park corner, George Smith made
a fantastic save from a scrambled shot, and Alistair threw his body
in the way of the follow up shot as George Smith dived at the forwards
feet. Alistair was badly winded, but soon forgot that when he collected
his Man of the Match Award for the second week running.
The players to a boy, showed heart and
desire in the face of some terrible tackling, all encouraged by the
opposition team management, who saw nothing wrong with nine year old
boys kicking lumps out of other boys in the pursuit of a result.
It had very little to do with football
and needs to be discouraged rather than encouraged.

The Falcons renewed their old rivalries
with a physical Knowle side on a windy day with the ball bobbling about
on an inconsistent playing surface. Boldmere started well playing into
a strong headwind & quickly began to assert themselves on the game,
dominating play all over the pitch. Knowle were resilient in defence
and the game seemed to be moving to half time with Boldmere looking
the only side likely to break the deadlock. However Boldmere shot themselves
in the foot when a mix up at the back allowed Knowle to tap in an easy
goal to take the lead just before the break.
After ‘gentle’ words from the management
team Boldmere came out determined to get something for all their hard
work in the first half. Playing with the wind the Falcons pinned Knowle
in their half & turned up the pressure on their defence. It was
only a matter of time before Boldmere grabbed an equaliser and it came
from a trademark blockbuster from the left boot of Joe Jobson. The Falcons
pressed for the winner & it looked like Joe Webb had scored with
a fantastic 20 yard shot into the top left corner of the Knowle net
only to see the opposing keeper somehow claw the ball over the top of
the bar with a fantastic save. Despite totally controlling the second
half Boldmere were just unable to grab the winner.
There were some excellent performances
all over the pitch with Joe Webb in midfield & Ryan Bevan in defence
particularly prominent however the manager was over ruled by his assistants
and the Royal Mail Sports Foundation Man of the Match was awarded to
Nathan Quinlan for a hard working, committed performance.
