Another sunny day and a very friendly atmosphere provided by the hosts made the fixture a pleasure for all participating. On a very small pitch with long grass, it was never going to be easy for Boldmere to play their football in all areas of the pitch. As expected, the opening exchanges were close and Chasetown caused a few problems for the Boldmere defence, but George Jenkins and Alistair Wells coped really well, and managed to start several attacks.

With Jake Freeman playing a disciplined role in front of his defence, Chasetowns opportunities were limited to a couple of hopeful shots that went wide. Going forward, Ben Caughtry and Ethan Caballero down the flanks were causing all sorts of problems, putting in dangerous crosses.

Boldmere went ahead after 6 minutes when Will Jones beat his player on the edge of the box and as he ran into the area to get his shot off the Chasetown defender brought him down. PENALTY! Will dusted himself down and got up to take the penalty himself.

Despite a brave attempt by the Chasetown keeper, who parried the ball, it just crept over the line. 1-0 to the Colts. Within two minutes it was 2-0. Ethan Caballero who had started the game like a man on a mission, beat his player on the left side of the box and struck a terrific low shot, which again the Chasetown keeper managed to get a hand to, but the shot had too much power and went over the line.

Despite several more shots in the first half, the score stayed at 2-0 and Chasetown were still in the game. An even start to the second half where the only chances to score came from Jack Whitehouse and Frazer Austin, who's shots were saved by the keeper. Liam Nevin was now playing the holding role in midfield and was setting up several attacks.

George Smith in the Boldmere goal was having to deal with some dangerous situations caused by Chasetowns goalkeeper kicking the ball the full length of the field. Brad Priddey and George Jenkins were well organised and coped with some awkward moments really well.

The turning point of the game was when Chasetown missed their best chance of the game by hitting the post and Boldmere went straight down the other end and scored the vital third goal. Jake Freeman played a great pass into the Cannock half for Ben Caughtry to run onto, but he found his path blocked by two defenders. Ben cut inside onto his left foot and slotted the ball into the only part of the goal visible. A top quality finish and a real gamebreaker. For the rest of the game Cannock were in survival mode.

The fourth goal followed very quickly when Frazer Austin switched the ball from the right, into Jake Freeman and he kept the ball going to a wide open Jack Whitehouse who struck a low shot in off the post. The fifth goal was a spectacular shot from just inside his own half by Will Jones. It was a very deliberate attempt and Will fully deserves credit for putting it in the top of the net over a very tall goalkeeper.

The last goal of the game was fittingly the best of the lot. Finally, Boldmere could play the ball from the back and George Jenkins played a pass out to Ethan Caballero, who put Ben Caughtry free down the left hand side. His run and cross with his left foot went to the far post where Alistair Wells had made a fantastic run from his own box, to get on the end and tap the ball home.

The Man Of The Match went to Ethan Caballero for a real captains display. When the game was tight, he really made the difference to enable Boldmere to come out on top.

Additional Report:

Boldmere Falcons S&S U10's:     6

Longbridge Colts U10's :               3

Boldmere continued their impressive start to the new season with another goal feast in a highly competitive match in glorious sunshine.

The early chances all fell to Boldmere as they laid siege to the Longbridge goal, but some excellent defending and a number of near misses prevented the home side from taking the lead. An unfortunate deflection from a Longbridge corner gave the visitors a surprise lead, but Boldmere always felt that with the chances being created, it wouldn't be long before they were back on level terms.

Boldmere were rewarded for their attacking play when Niall Brennan ran down the right wing and crossed in to Declan Whiting, who reacted quickly to drag the ball back after the keeper parried it to the left of the goal, before simply passing beneath the keepers body and into the net for the equaliser. The lead for Boldmere soon followed as Matthew Brown and Harry Simper linked up superbly to set Harry up for a goal from close range, as they played a one-two behind the Longbridge defence. Harry then doubled his tally for the day, when he broke from midfield with speed and with only the keeper to beat, fired into the bottom left hand corner to give Boldmere a 3-1 advantage at the break. Longbridge had their chances and did manage to find the net just before the break, but it was disallowed, as Boldmere keeper Frankie Barrett lay injured in the goal after a receiving an accidental knock to the shoulder in the build up. Thanks to some superb defending from Jodie Mason, Rory Doherty, Kieron Williams and Lewis Barratt, Longbridge were left frustrated as they battled to get back in the game.

Longbridge came out looking to reduce the deficit and were generously helped, as a mix up at the back, led to an early shot and goal, giving the away team hope of making a comeback. With this, Boldmere pushed forward looking to restore the 2 goal lead and were in turn, helped by a Longbridge defender as the ball was whipped in from the left, he ended up heading into the net as he stood on the edge of the box. Unlucky for Longbridge, but it came after increased pressure from the Boldmere midfield of Jamie Smith, Jack Whitaker, Harry, Niall and Declan .

The pressure started to count, as Boldmere once again attacked from the wings and a cross into the box was met by Matthew Brown, who coolly headed into the net as the keeper made a desperate attempt to keep it out. The best was yet to come as Declan Whiting took hold of the ball in midfield, just as he did most of the game, and ran to the left wing as three Longbridge players tried to close him down. Declan turned with the ball, losing one defender, before moving into space, losing the others and curled an unstoppable shot into the top right hand corner for easily the best goal of the game. As both teams started to wilt in the heat of the sun, Longbridge managed a consolation goal with only a few minutes left on the clock.

Player of the Match went to Declan Whiting for an outstanding overall performance in all areas of the pitch and capping it with a contender for goal of the season.

Another excellent display from Boldmere Falcons S&S.

Aldridge Pumas: 5

Man of the Match:            Matthew Clarke (Midfield)

Goals Scorers:                 Platini Kamdon

This was better from Boldmere. Boldmere were a match for Aldridge for 45 minutes of the game. However they gifted Aldridge their five goals when they once again simply failed to compete. Simple basic mistakes and a lack of competitiveness allowed Aldridge a victory that Boldmere could so easily have made theirs.

Boldmere Falcons U11’s:  2

Castle Bromwich United U11’s:  1

Boldmere started well putting Castle Bromwich on the back foot from kick off. George Grigg scored two well taken goals before half time with Joe Burke playing a huge part in setting up both. After the break the Falcons again put the visitors under huge pressure however it was Castle Bromwich who grabbed a goal back. Boldmere deservedly won the game with some great performances in particular from the Royal Mail Sports Foundation Man Of The Match Jacob Beeke.

Castle Bromwich United U11’s:  1

Boldmere began well immediately pressing Castle Bromwich back into their own half & going close almost from the kick off. A superb move saw George Grigg grab a fine goal to open the scoring. Shortly after Joe Burke went on a fantastic run to set up George Grigg for his second and it looked like there would be a rout. Castle Bromwich’s main threat came from the huge goal kicks from their keeper that was very much route 1 tactics but there was very little other threat forthcoming as the game reached half time.

The second half started with Boldmere pressing for further goals but try as they might the ball just wouldn’t find the back of the visitors net. A mixture of some last ditch blocks and Falcons attackers not taking their chances saw the score line remain at 2 – 0 until the inevitable happened and Castle Bromwich found a way back into the game after a dangerous cross was diverted into the net by the unlucky Boldmere defender. This gave the opposition renewed belief and in the remaining time they twice broke free only for Jacob Beeke to make a superb save. The game finished with Boldmere once more in the ascendancy however the lads need to learn from this game as against stronger sides we would be made to pay for not taking our chances and some poor defending. That being said there were several fine performances not least George Grigg, Josh Gordon and the Royal Mail Sports Foundation Man Of The Match Jacob Beeke.

Rubery Girls U12’s: 1
