          Additional:

After a six week absence from competitive football today was always going to be a test for the boys against our local rivals Holly Lane United A. With the first half being played very much in the middle of the pitch chances were few and far between with man of the match Conor Dardis clearing anything that came his way assisted by a defiant Billy Sherridan. 0-0 the half time score.

The second half got off to a very lively start with a lovely pass from Jayden to Billy who took on United’s defence, passed 3 players and slotted home the opener no more than the Colts deserved. United pressed forward to try to gain an equalizer but Filip Kozlowski was rarely troubled in goal. The second goal came when Sam Burnett received the ball just outside the box and turned quickly only to be brought down on the edge of the area. Ryan Hipkins shot was blocked and with a mad scramble in the area the ball finally came to Sam who stroked the ball home with ease 2-0. With only a couple of minutes left the Colts saw the game out to enjoy their first League win of the season. Well done an excellent start to 2010.

Colron Boys: 2

The longest break from football since the team was formed preceded this match and the cobwebs were almost visible!

Colron, having drafted in players from their more experienced Central Warwickshire League team were a different proposition to the team that started the season.

Despite their bottom of the league position, they took the game to Boldmere and deservedly went ahead after five minutes.

Boldmere were caught on the half way line trying to play football and Colron broke away to score.

Frazer Austin down the right hand side was playing some good football and one move started by him and involving Alistair Wells almost resulted in an equaliser, but Will Jones shot was saved well.

Just as Boldmere started to get some momentum, they conceded a second from a corner that was scrambled home despite a great effort from George Smith in goal to keep the ball out.

George Smith then had to deal with a Colron player bearing down on goal, and it was only George's bravery, diving at the player’s feet that prevented Boldmere going three down.

In midfield, Liam Nevin and Alistair Wells started to get more of the ball and gradually Boldmere came back into the game.

It seemed that it was not going to be Boldmere's day when a clearance from the Colron keeper fell at Ben Caughtrys feet near the half way line. With quick thinking Ben lifted a high shot which the keeper just managed to touch on his way back to the goal and it hit the post and came back into the keepers hands.

Jake Freeman was now on the right hand side of midfield and he linked up with Ben Caughtry to set up the goal that Boldmere needed before half time. Ben nicked the ball past the last defender and unselfishly passed the ball to Ethan Caballero at the far post who calmly controlled and put the ball into the net.

Half time 2-1 down and the momentum had changed.

Boldmere pegged Colron back and with Ethan Caballero consistently beating his man, it was only a matter of time before Boldmere equalised.

Jack Whitehouse played the ball to Ethan Caballero on the left, who brilliantly beat his man and hit a hard low cross to the far post where Ben Caughtry brilliantly turned the ball in with his left foot. The ball was slightly behind him and he deserves a lot of credit for the finish.

By now, Colron were defending for their lives and the final goal of the game came when Ethan Caballero beat his man yet again and put the ball into the danger area, causing a Colron player running back towards his own goal to knock the ball past his keeper. Alistair Wells and Ben Caughtry were both well positioned to finish.

George Jenkins and Brad Priddey started the game at the back and deserve a lot of credit because at times they were being over run by four or five Colron players, and managed to stem the flow early on.

However, the man of the match for Boldmere was Ethan Caballero who was involved in all of the goals and kept two players busy at all times.

Full Version

Boldmere Falcons U11    3    -    0    Holy Souls U11

Boldmere started well putting Holy Souls onto the back foot from the kick off. Several chances came & went before Joe Jobson went on a great run & despite a flailing challenge that nearly brought him down put in a pin point cross that Jack Lowe powered past the helpless keeper with a superb header. After the enforced break due to the weather this seemed to settle the Falcons & they began to pin the away side in their own half. Holy Souls defended well but were undone again before half time when a superb move put Joe Jobson free in the opposing penalty area and he duly despatched a great shot into the waiting net. Boldmere continued to create chances but the away defence held firm to keep the score at 2 - 0 at half time.

Boldmere came out in the second half & continued to dominate as they had in the first. The Falcons players gave Holy Souls no time on the ball & on the away sides rare foray's into Boldmere's half there was always a home shirt there with a crunching tackle or strong header. When Jack Lowe was up ended in the penalty area the referee had no option but to point to the spot. Strangely no one wanted to take it and the pressure obviously got to Nathan Quinlan as he hit the spot kick tamely at the keeper who made an easy save & gather. This reprieve for Holy Souls was only short-lived however as Nathan Quinlan got his revenge when he found the net high up at the near post. A little lucky as it was a cross rather than a shot that found the net. That being said it was no more than the Falcons deserved as they dominated this League Cup clash from start to finish. The rest of the game saw Boldmere continue to apply pressure but they were unable to add further to the goal tally despite several good chances not least of which when Joe Burke managed to put the ball over the bar from little more than 4 or 5 yards out!!!

There were several performances of note in particular in midfield where all four players were on their game today. The Roskell Davis Man of the Match was awarded to Josh Raby-Gordon for a quite brilliant defensive performance.
